1. REPRESENTATION
The flag is only to be used to represent the astronomical body of planet Earth. The flag does not represent a business, organization, or an individual.

The design
The scientific study of flags is called vexillology, and the practice of designing flags is called vexillography. Both of these are an outcome of heraldry. In these practices there are different unofficial design rules/customs, about colors, placement, proportions, typography, and aesthetics in general.
This proposal is accurate according to the regulations regarding flags.
Symbolic explanation
Centered in the flag, seven rings form a flower – a symbol of the life on Earth. The rings are linked to each other, which represents how everything on our planet, directly or indirectly, are linked. The blue field represents water which is essential for life – also as the oceans cover most of our planet's surface. The flower's outer rings form a circle which could be seen as a symbol of Earth as a planet and the blue surface could represent the universe.
Heraldic blazon
Centered on an azure field, seven circles of silver interlaced, creating a flower.
The design process
The evolution
The International Flag of Planet Earth (IFOPE) started as a graduation project, by Oskar Pernefeldt at Beckmans College of Design (Stockholm, Sweden). Due to the widespread recognition and encouragement around the project, it has organically evolved into the nonprofit organization The International Flag of Planet Earth Organization (IFOPE-O) that serves as the awareness agency representing the flag, in a myriad of ways.
The work of IFOPE-O is to spread awareness about The International Flag of Planet Earth which serves as a voice for planet Earth and which imbibes the message that we share this planet; that we have to take care of it and each other. Our work is to promote the symbol behind which we can unite to work for sustainability, innovation, respect, justice, equality and care for Earth and life on this planet.
But, needless to say, our work is so much more than just a flag. It is about social impact, by building bridges and communication between people, organizations, businesses and missions. The flag itself serves as a catalyst for conversations, education and collaborations, as a voice for the planet, and it is a reminder that we have to come together for a sustainable future – no matter our political views, ethnicity, religion, etc.
Retailers
As a non-profit organization we do not sell flags. However there are many manufacturers and distributers available online. One of our absolute favorites in the USA is Flags For Good.
